Porous mullite was prepared from a reactive mixture of Al metal powder and the fly ash produced by power plant. The sintering ceramics was characterized for the pore structure and phase identification studies. It was found that the sintered specimen expands at first (°C) and then shrinks which was correspondence to the changing of open porosity.
Synthesis of mullite from fly ash mixed with alumina powder was studied. A suitable fly ash containing small amounts of flux components such as alkali, alkali earth metal and iron oxides and contents of the flux components reduced by pretreatment like magnetic led to separation, a mullitelike material with relatively good quality.
Mullite ceramics were fabricated with fly ash, clay, and Al 2 O 3 as raw materials. The effects of Al 2 O 3 content, the sintering temperature and the pickling process on the crystalline phases, sintering characteristics and microstructures were studied. With more addition amount of Al 2 O 3 and higher sintering temperature, the peak intensity of the mullite crystalline phase increased.
In this study, enrichment methods for coal fly ash (CFA) from Omsk thermal power station No. 4 (TPS4) were investigated. The magnetite and unburned carbon concentrates were obtained by magnetic separation and flotation methods. The wet magnetic separation used in the study increased the magnetite content in the magnetic fraction from to wt % compared to dry magnetic separation.
